Seoul Semiconductor Will Exhibit Products Such As Micro LED For Autonomous Vehicles

Dec 30, 2021

On December 22, Seoul Semiconductor's official website announced that it will exhibit all light source products at CES 2022, including two automotive lighting products: automotive micro-display-WICOP mc, adaptive driving beam smart headlight-WICOP ADB and in-vehicle UV LED Air disinfection solution technology solution-Violeds.

WICOP mc

Seoul Semiconductor pointed out that the current brightness of LCD or OLED displays is less than 1,000 nits, which limits the transmission of information about driving trends between vehicles and pedestrians or other vehicles. In addition, the existing LED display chip size is relatively large, and the necessary information cannot be correctly realized on the small bumper or outside of the vehicle. Seoul Semiconductor's dust-proof and moisture-proof WICOP mc micro-display has a brightness of 5000 nits, which is eight times the brightness of existing LCDs and can display clear information.

WICOP ADB

Seoul Semiconductor said that at present, the focus of automotive development has been on the development of technologies to prevent car accidents and ensure driver safety. However, technologies that take into account the convenience and safety of drivers, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicle drivers at the same time are becoming more and more important. In particular, the combination of in-vehicle sterilization technology to ensure the safety of the air in the vehicle, and the lighting technology that can ensure the safety of other vehicle drivers or pedestrians when the driver of an autonomous vehicle is absent or distracted is attracting attention.

At that time, Seoul Semiconductor will exhibit its new adaptive driving beam intelligent headlight WICOP ADB, which can improve the visibility of vehicles or pedestrians ahead while driving.

Violeds

Seoul Semiconductor is currently conducting virus disinfection experiments using actual cars in its internal laboratory to study the impact of various bacteria and viruses on passenger safety. At CES 2022, Seoul Semiconductor will showcase Violeds, a technology solution for UV LED air disinfection in the car. This solution can disinfect more than 90 percent of the viruses floating in the car within 10 minutes, reducing the infection of the air inside the car or the floating viruses on the inner surface Probability. Seoul Semiconductor will start mass production of this disinfection technology solution in January.

Seoul Semiconductor said that the first two products (WICOP mc and WICOP ADB) all use WICOP packaging technology. The packaged products do not require brackets, gold wires, substrates and solder paste. At present, 10 percent of the world's cars use products containing WICOP technology.

It is worth noting that previously, Seoul Semiconductor subsidiary Seoul Viosys also announced that it will exhibit WICOP mc products for VR headset micro-displays and an 82-inch FHD integrating 6.2 million WICOP mc chips at CES 2022. Display, and a 40-inch display with 2.8 million chips.
